A SHORT STORY OF THE STALLING PROGRESS

I was not going to write a post about the National Security Agency trying to create a Quantum Computer.

I have typed a fair few on them and their UK equivalents over here. I had thought I had pretty much covered them enough.

However I saw this headline again and something occurred to new today I have only ever skirted with in the past. It is to do with how we have actually progressed extremely slowly in certain areas and my thoughts as to why.

I have made it absolutely clear that at my age I am not witnessing nor experiencing the things that they teased me about while at school.

Where are the flying cars?

Where are the giant metropolis like cities with Judge Dredd like vehicles and all the sci-fi stuff that was supposed to become a reality?

Even the aircraft have been stuck in some limbo like stasis while Concorde had been consigned to the history books.

Now I believed that the military, probably here in the UK but definitely America, they find out things that have been created and decide they want them but do not washy the wider public access to such things? Since I started thinking that a very long time ago I have now realised that even telecoms companies over charge you for a simple smart phone asks them switch off things they do not want you to have access to. This is fact.

For a few years now I have had one eye on quantum computing and it's mind boggling science.  An atom, it turns out, can have three phases. Out can spin in either direction or....wait for it....soon in both at the same time! That is the best simplification you will ever hear on it.

This also means a new numbering system as binary is not good enough. Now that extra position may but doing like much but believe me when I Dawe that it is. Just that extra number, or value, being added to the current CPUs with billions of transistors would be world changing. Except we are talking about single atoms here which will be about a 25th the size of current transistors in CPUs like Intels Cores. A reduction in size to that degree is also a big deal.

So when it becomes readily available to the public in around 8 to 15 years time it will be astonishing. Or will it?

Of course it never occurred to me! Now governments realise that they should not have ignored the Internet to save cash! But now something is being worked upon that can completely manage and control everything online. Taking it and preventing it from becoming available to the public will mean there is nothing we could do to stop them doing whatever they want?!

If they are looking at this as keenly as they suggest I really do but think that they will want anyone else having access to it.
