Well I just see this reporting of air pollution in the UK and now realise that this was a factor regarding two things lately.
I have been getting very tired out of the blue which often happens anyway but been really frequent and very out of it. Usually it's not quite as sudden. The other thing was that I was in an friends flat very high up and a friend noticed that certain things could not be seen and I am now reminded that many buildings had no lights in either and were totally in the dark!
These were due south of err a park I cycle through all years and cannot remember it's name!! Lol! Well let us say about 500 yards east of Hertford Road in Enfield.
God, now I am reminded that it turned out that we both had been in contact with the Member of Parliament for Enfield North, Nick DeBois and our opinion of him was the same. A waste of space dick who had no time, other than photo or microphone opportunities, for members of the public. His office also had a very patronising nature to members of the public.
I have a fair few letters from Members of Parliament I have collected up over the years and in fairness to one dick, they are all dicks. Nothing, nada, zip and zilch is mostly what they do, so I find it funny that both Labour and the Conservatives are bloody well emailing me and also talking to me like I am a brainless idiot as they try to get my vote now that there is roughly one year remaining to the general election!
I don't know, maybe their attitude that everyone is stupid and naive and must be spoken down to or patronised is on the money because it's always one or the other plebs that get in power.
So then along with everything else we have the worsening air pollution to look forward to? I did think the air was getting very odd feeling and close lately and my unheated aquarium is currently 25.4 Celsius which I do not normally see the like of until June!
Not quite sure why it is that air from the Sahara is so polluted? I will have to read it again but it seems a bit odd that this has occurred as if the winter was not bizarre enough as it is. But then the planet is going through some kind of shift. This is mainly blamed on man while all focus and energy is firmly placed on the liar sections of society to make sacrifices and changes along with money to change diverting that cannot be changed to do something that is inevitable anyway.
Oddly there is more danger to come and from the very people that lord it up that they know everything and these would be public services! It will also get a little weird as an example of this I saw recently is in the USA via a webpage concerning animals in the state of Washington.
They had a list of species of amphibians that they deemed as invasive and troublesome and banned in the state. But some of these were native to America and one in particular itself endangered?!
Now stay with me here as I do know what I am taking about! I have seen plenty of evidence that animals migrate and they do this to attempt to stay within their comfort zone. Primarily this will be temperature. This can be achieved in one of two ways, or more accurately directions. Though one of these works the opposite if your south of the equator! Not there is a great deal of land mass south of the equator, other than that of Antarctica.
If they are north of the equator they can head north and if south of the equator they can head south. The other alternative was one I witnessed myself in the south of Italy in the region of Calabria. They can head upwards if the opportunity is there. You can be in a very hot climate but if there is a nearby and large enough mountain range then if you had up it for long enough it will get cold enough for snow to be lying on the ground. Further up still and you get permafrost, meaning it's always frozen.
This is something not often thought about by people wanting or keeping tropical fish or reptiles and amphibians.
Now if your some large body and your focus is conservation but your knowledge died not go beyond the sciences of herpetology (reptiles), batrachology (amphibians) and ichthyology (fish) or any other area of fauna and flora you will wind up doing mitre harm than good!
To explain this I might also make you realise that there is another issue that is causing the decline in numbers of wildlife and this is because of man but not for what you think.
If you attempt to contain wildlife, because of course you have all the answers and are paid for because of that, you will only play a hand in their reduction or wise still extinction. For many millennia animals have migrated around and even evolved to new substrates when temperatures are not ideal. Natterjack Toads (Bufo calamita but genus changed) and Green Toads (Bufo viridis genus also changed) adapted to Sand Dunes because the sand absorbs warmth and the pools are small and warmer than your average garden ponds. In the UK this is why Natterjacks are disjointed and colonies spread far and wide. Their is also a colony in south west Island too.
Being fascinated by these animals since I was four years old and surrounded by them because my father had a famous pet store I wanted to know why these of situations occurred! So I spent a lifetime, but with large gaps thanks to morons in public offices and organisations who have zero intelligence and wisdom, studying these guys every chance I got. I have done many things and very capable of being a great many too purely based on my understanding of the temperatures and substrates to which they live! So many were shocked at what I knew but this was because I focused on country and elevation and not a species by species account remembering all data associated with each one. It made far more sense to understand the country and each biotope could be easily remembered and therefore applied to dozens of species with little in the way of variation.
So what I see is a great deal of scientists that have either not thought things through or indeed not seen what is starting them in the face! When I quoted singer of this webpage to another herpetologist I know he was completely shocked that they considered their own species as invasive and a pest. One of these was the Hellbender, umm Cryptobranchus allegensiensis?, which they have had difficulties with for years in America due to these odd deformities, probably via pesticides as it always seems to come down to.
The other issues that they have is that the strips of land that they would once travel among as they migrated have been removed for the use of roads and agriculture! But farmers always ludicrously state that people in built up areas like cities do not understand they countryside the way they do. Yes we don't poison the bloody wildlife for years, lol.
To the animals the land is totally unrecognisable and impossible to traverse. Get a bunch of do good idiots not thinking things through and your in the road to misery.
Throw in the aversion to admitting your wrong and change direction before it's too late and then ... well it's too late! Nature is in a fine balance all the time and it's not a balance that you will not want to our of kilter for to long. Because everything else relies on it and it is annoying to see bloody idiots destroying their own previous habitats and forests cause 'well we need the money, we have children to feed' desire the fact that they are actually working to not even leave them a planet and it's atmosphere and/or food after they have gone!
I always find some arguments illogical and of course it comes down to the same problem with the current capitalist like systems that are in place because this is doing it all! Make no mistake that while you have people at the top greedy for more money and power their will always be those at the bottom so desperate to do at they are told for cash that they fail to see the far worse longer term damage that they do?
So you have the destruction of habitat is the main threat closely followed by the impeding of wildlife due to some game idea of what it should be. In time here in the UK many native animals may struggle to live? Birds do not have this issue so much because they can fly! Yet birds get a far higher status because everyone loves then and they are pretty and graceful and yet frogs which are mostly spurned by women ate far more important to the status quo than birds are I am afraid. Amphibians among with many other animals cannot migrate so easily and due to their reliance on water in an ever warning climate this goes double! Reptiles are not reliant on water but still can be impeded. You cannot include rivers as a source of water and travel because to big and too fast flowing waters are simply a no-no. Plus very big fish will make a meal of most smaller amphibians anyway.
So there you have my spotting a retort on air pollution I cannot quite fathom asking with an insight into the world of animals heading downhill due to the real issues including one that involves very big human egos.
Hopefully in time the wings will be realised and long before any real damage is done to a single solitary species of animal?!
The Golden Toads, Bufo pereglenes, of the Moteverde Cloud Forest of Costa Rica may well be the first victims of over protection, naivety and egos. Please do not go and add even a single species to that list!
I often wonder why people in positions that know better do not so and think about not just the repercussions of their actions and decisions but also ask themselves how would they want history to remember them?
I know I do!! Lol!
